Bonobo Cafe

Welcome to Bonobo Cafe!

Bonobo is a lovely place in Aberdeen, which is located on 73-75 Skene street. This is the only completely vegan place in the city and offers a range of meals such as toasts, wraps, mac n’ cheese, hot pots, cakes etc. To sum up – all the favourite foods but in a vegan way. They also have breakfast options and a lunch menu, which includes different soups, salads and hot pots every day. They also have gluten free options but unfortunately most of the desserts are not sugar-free or “healthy” in any other way different than being vegan.

The most interesting part about Bonobo is that it is workers’ co-operative.

” We’re a workers’ co-operative, and this is a model we chose because we believe in the importance of non-exploitation, empowering people and building strong communities.”

They have their own garden, where they grow herbs and most of the ingredients are from local suppliers, which is great. Can’t wait for the winter to end, so I can just sit there and relax.

Personally, I visited the cafe twice and I was very happy with it. Except the fact that it was a bit cold the second time, but winter is coming, you know 🙂 I had an espresso –  unfortunately they do not make their own nut milk so I couldn’t have latte or anything else again (I was disappointed by the same thing at FoodStory).

The other things I tried were a red lentil soup with turmeric which was awesome and a hit in the rainy day and a salad – wild rice, cauliflower, avocado, tahini sauce and rocket – very delicious and balanced!

What I liked a lot about the cafe was that there were a lot of people on their own there – just grabbing lunch or having a cup of coffee! They have free water (still and lemon infused) and you get cutlery and sauces on your own. The main sitting area is on the second floor.

The cafe is located in walking distance from the city centre and is a great escape from the world, where you can not only feel cozy but enjoy cruelty-free food.

Definitely give it a go! And don’t forget to check out their social media accounts:
